Frieze Masters returns to The Regent’s Park 14 – 18 October 2026. This year’s fair is a meeting point for both established and growing audiences to engage with new perspectives, research and curation. Spotlight returns with new curators and Reflections this year takes inspiration from Casa Luis Barragán and The Cosmic House. They are accompanied by Queering Modernism: Visual Languages of the 20th Century, a new curatorial initiative that offers alternative readings of art history and opens up new conversations across the fair.
Queering Modernism: Visual Languages of the 20th Century
Queering Modernism makes its debut at Frieze Masters 2026 as a curatorial thread conceived by German curator Anke Kempkes, who curated ‘Queer Modernism 1900–1950’ at K20 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf, in 2025. Rather than occupying a single section, the presentations will be spread throughout the fair, offering unexpected encounters.
Expanding the canon of modernist and postwar art history, Queering Modernism foregrounds work that engages with queer experience and the representation of LGBTQIA+ subjects. Tracing a lineage from early modern experimentation to the postmodern art scene of the 1980s, it spotlights radical work shaped by desire, embodied experience and self-representation.
