Saskia Fernando Gallery is pleased to announce Rasika De Silva’s upcoming solo exhibition, The Shape of Being. Drawing the natural world into the human figure, de Silva reimagines existence as a medley that takes shape at the interstices of the botanical and the surreal. Between portrait and apparition, these figures invite us to reconsider where the human ends and nature begins.
Rasika De Silva (b. 1967, Balapitiya; lives and works in Colombo) is a Sri Lankan artist whose practice examines the fragile relationship between humankind and the natural environment through a bold, vibrant palette, reminiscent of Sri Lanka's lush tropical landscape. His work attempts to create a discourse on capitalism, power, gender, and the relentless exploitation of nature. Through rich visual metaphors and surrealist imagery, he explores the ecological tensions and environmental crises of our time.
Rasika De Silva completed a Diploma in Fine Art from Sharadha Kala Nikethanaya, Colombo (1998).
He has presented in over ten solo exhibitions, and his works are held in noteworthy private collections.
