GAMAN MALIGA: AJANTHA RANAWEERA

25 August - 15 September 2026
Overview

Saskia Fernando Gallery is pleased to announce Ajantha Ranaweera’s first solo exhibition at our gallery, Gaman Maliga. Taking inspiration from temporary royal residences set up during provincial journeys in medieval Sri Lanka, the exhibition explores movement as power that circulates, transforms, and fractures as it encounters different social worlds, across time and place.
Ajantha Ranaweera explores structures of political power through figures that inhabit ambiguous, fantastical, and spiritual realms. Drawing inspiration from Sri Lankan mural traditions, his practice reflects a decolonised approach to knowledge and artistic production. Ajantha Ranaweera has earned a M.Arch from the University of the West of England, Bristol (2015) and a Higher Diploma in Architecture from the City School of Architecture, Colombo (2012). He presented solo exhibitions at Paradise Road Galleries, Colombo.
