Before a flame bursts forth, there is a moment of insistence; a shimmer of colour pulsing through the darkness, gathering strength before it breaks into light. Aka | Life of Fire dwells in this threshold. Rather than depicting light in its familiar intensity, Ruwan Prasanna turns to its early murmurs; the tension between shadow and illumination and the chromatic pulse that signals the beginning of transformation. Aka extends Prasanna’s earlier meditation on nature’s ephemera, exploring the moment of ignition– a moment where form, colour and texture converged into a state of becoming. Ember reds, electric blue, and luminous fluorescent hues erupt through layered surfaces creating contrasts that tow the line between the familiar and novel. The artist embraces this dissonance to probe sensation; it is in the tension between the hues that the canvas ignites.
