KAVAN BALASURIYA
-
Kavan traces and engraves the surface of aluminium foil to create geometric abstractions inspired by architecture, textiles, and organic compositions. In examining the foil's spatial, emotive and novel qualities, he presents the potential of static objects being fluid visual experiences. Inspired by craft-based practices, Kavan uses his drawing practice to engage in a dialogue between maker and material.

HASHAN COORAY
-
Hashan Cooray is a self taught artist based in Colombo. He combines drawing, painting, digital art, installation and mixed media collage to engage his subjects beyond the stereotypical translation of portraiture. The artist repurposes the artefacts of nationalism, capitalism and consumerism such as propaganda posters and commercial advertisements. He presents multi-layered and textured portraits that interrogate the psyche of individuals influenced by the over-consumption of media. Characterised by an intense gestural quality that portrays his subjects in an intrusive manner, his work provides a stark image of the impact of an oppressive regime and consumerist culture on society and its denizens. His work has been featured in both group and solo exhibitions at Saskia Fernando Gallery, Sri Lanka and has been published in the Imago Mundi Book Project by the Benetton Foundation.

FABIENNE FRANCOTTE
-
Belgium-born Fabienne Francotte's works combine social, emotional and spiritual experiences; the vivid narrative of an expatriate, teacher and observer. Her portraits are about the characteristics of class, gender, and race. They are a tale of the daily struggle showing distinctive appearances, expressions, and gestures. Her people are everyday and anonymous. The artist moved to Sri Lanka in 2016 after which she began engaging and communicating conflicting issues in Sri Lanka today: school and education, dreams and weddings, sex and business, silence and fear, courage and dedication, as well as religion and tolerance. Her works are often surveys of her surroundings and environment; juxtapositions of emotional exchanges and simple observations.

MUVINDU BINOY
-
Muvindu Binoy is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is focused predominantly on digital collage and film. He uses the internet as a primary archive to create collages that interrogate the cracks in our social world, systems of fate and ‘online’ realities with a tone of absurdist humour and uncanny truths. He explores themes of gender, agency, title and the expectation of traditional values and the contradictions of modern living through the digital manipulation of images.
