Remember to Breathe : Shaanea Mendis

In her first solo presentation at Saskia Fernando Gallery, Shaanea Mendis embraces renewal through the meditative act of mark-making. In Remember to Breathe the artist reimagines a space for repair – not in an effort to erase but to seek renewal. Traversing through grief, the artist finds survival and ritual in her practice, exploring intricate cellular and infrastructural patterns in watercolour renderings.

Shaanea Mendis (b. 1982, Sri Lanka) is a visual artist based in Copenhagen. She graduated with a BFA (Hons) degree from The Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore. (2007) Her work has been exhibited at SEED - The Art Space, Singapore (2022) and Bombay Art Society, Mumbai (2018).
