My creative practice explores the nature of illusion. From a young age, growing up amid the rocky outcrops of Kurunegela, Sri Lanka, I began watching the light and the way it played with shapes, textures and the natural world. This has informed my work ever since, whether focused on vast landscapes or concepts of self. Suffering without remedy, without knowledge, is Animal Life. To be born to our species is different, for the incredible diversity among beings and for our capacity for imagination, for ideas, for creativity. And our senses are a divine device, equipped to witness eternal manifestations. Yet we still all possess an animal nature. Hence the human struggle to live blissfully is ultimately a circle, forever rolling and repeating itself. I believe that by embracing the artist within we might slow down our expected functions and all these endless exaggerated actions. ‘Art is living and living is art. - Anup Vega
