In 'Devil Dancers' Hashan Cooray confronts the complex relationship between an individual and the entangled web of nationalist, capitalist, and consumerist influences within which they exist. Cooray's work explores how consumerism intertwines with identity, positing brands as vehicles through which individuals articulate themselves. Moreover, the artwork endeavors to scrutinize the relevance and interpretation of traditional values and cultural symbols in an ever more capitalistic global landscape.
