Provenance
Acquired from the Nimal and Malika Cooke CollectionNimal Cooke acquired two works, considered among his most prized possessions, from the artist’s nephew, Fr Lionel Peiris, who was also Nimal’s classmate at Royal College from 1962 to 1964. Created in 1927, several years before George Keyt became a commercially celebrated artist, these works were originally gifted by Keyt to his sister, Mrs Harold Peiris. They were later bequeathed to her son, Fr Lionel Peiris, from whom Nimal Cooke purchased them. In addition, Nimal acquired two works from George Keyt’s close friend and advisor, Ian Goonetilleke. Except these four works, all other artworks in the Nimal and Malika Cooke Collection were acquired directly from the artist.
