Acquired from the Dominique-Henri Freiche CollectionDominique-Henri Freiche, former Christie's Paris Chairman, belongs to a family of Franco-Italian art collectors and scholars.Having lived on five continents over the course of his life, he had the privilege of being exposed to multitudes of art and craft favouring South American textiles, European silver, Thai ceramics and Sri Lankan Buddhist statues.
His encounter with Sri Lankan art began in the 1980s, when he resided in the country for 15 years. He continues to spend time in the country to date and has amassed a collection of modern and contemporary art from the likes of Lionel Wendt, Bevis Bawa and Richard Gabriel amongst others.
Today he lives in Kyoto, Japan where he collects and studies old Japanese lacquerwares.
