Ajantha Ranaweera (b. 1988, Colombo) explores structures of political power through figures that inhabit ambiguous, fantastical, and spiritual realms. Drawing inspiration from Sri Lankan mural traditions, his practice reflects a decolonised approach to knowledge and artistic production.
By engaging with Rasa theory and integrating a limited color palette with intricate linework, he creates a visual language that bridges tradition and modernity. His practice challenges colonial narratives, fostering a dialogue that is both uniquely Sri Lankan and universally relevant, while reconnecting with indigenous knowledge systems.
Ajantha Ranaweera has earned a M.Arch from the University of the West of England, Bristol (2015) and a Higher Diploma in Architecture from the City School of Architecture, Colombo (2012). He presented solo exhibitions at Paradise Road Galleries, Colombo.
