In Bodies, Thenuwara deftly marries the form of the Niyangala (Gloriosa lily) and lotus flower with that of disembodied limbs - expressing through the visual similarity a synonymous association. The flowers, both the Niyangala and the lotus are symbolic of the ethnolinguistic group identities - Tamil and Sinhala, respectively, which were engaged in a three decade long war.
