SILENT AUCTION | IN AID OF THE CEYLON SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF & THE BLIND | 2017

24.08.17

The Ceylon School for the Deaf & Blind, an approved charity, is over one hundred years old and has under its purview three residential schools: the School for the Blind, the School for the Deaf at Ratmalana and Nuffield School for the Deaf & Blind at Kaithady Jaffna. The total student population in the three schools combined is approximately 570.

Almost all the students are from impoverished homes and cannot afford to pay any fees. Accordingly they are not levied any fees for tuition, hostel accommodation and other facilities. The Resource Development Committee (RDC) assist in the fundraising for the school.

We are honoured to host this third Silent Auction as a fundraiser for the Ceylon School for the Deaf and the Blind. Once again we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of both collectors and artists who have donated to the event some of the best works from their collections as well as created works especially for the auction itself. This year we invited twelve artists to work on 12 elephants made with resin and fibre glass. This is a series of unique artworks that we hope to continue as a feature in the fundraisers to come. We are also excited to present the works of modern artists Jamini Roy and Stanley Kirinde in our line up. Jamini Roy’s work is today only available for purchase within India and to Indian residents, therefore it is a particular prestige to have this work, formerly exhibited at the Sapumal Foundation, in our line up. We would like to say a special thank you to Udayshanth Fernando and Suresh Dominic for their continuous support in this project from its inception.
