PRAGEETH MANOHANSA b.1976

Prageeth Manohansa holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts of the University of Kelaniya in Colombo. A trained landscape architect, Manohansa works with the disciplines of welding and recycling of scrap metal and found objects. His assemblage figurative and conceptual sculptures are formed by the ensuring minimal manipulation of his medium. Influences of traditional Sri Lankan culture were strongly evident in much of his early work that focused on masks and religious deities. A skilled draughtsman, Manohansa began work on canvas and paper in 2010 starting with an exhibition of his preliminary drawings for sculpture commissions. His affinity for capturing fluid movement in predominantly figurative linear drawings and heavy metal sculpture sets Prageeth apart as one of Sri Lanka’s foremost painters and sculptors.
