Saskia Fernando Gallery was established in February 2009 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The gallery expanded in December 2013 to a space where it now stands as the largest contemporary art gallery in the island, housing two exhibition spaces and an inventory of over 1000 works by leading and emerging local contemporary artists. In addition to presenting monthly exhibitions, the gallery has collaborated on exhibitions internationally in London, Dubai and Singapore.
Saskia Fernando Gallery has succeeded as the first gallery to professionalize the Sri Lankan contemporary art scene and take the industry forward in marking its place as a considerable player in the South Asian art movement.
In 2016 the gallery expanded via its sister company, Art Space Sri Lanka. The online platform has enabled the gallery to display the entire represented and exhibited inventory online as well as work with a range of other artists through online exhibitions and monthly features. The Art Space HQ is now located at the same premises as Saskia Fernando Gallery, featuring pop up shows over weekends and an accessible point to view the online inventory on appointment.
